Part of the fun of owning a pet is taking them around town so you can both have fun exploring new places. Sarasota is filled with dog-friendly spots that are a great way to spend part of the day, and our real estate agents recommend these paws-itively perfect pet-friendly summer activities:
- Take your pet to a dog-friendly restaurant.
Some area restaurants are dog-friendly and allow you to bring your buddy to hang out beside you while you eat. But Boo's Ice House & Dog Bar takes the idea a step further and combines an off-leash dog park with a restaurant that truly welcomes your pup. They even have their own treat menu so they can enjoy a goodie while you try a slice of wood-fired pizza and a cocktail. You can also let your pooch romp in the onsite dog park or lounge on the outdoor Doggie Dining Deck.
- Bring your dog to the beach.
Dogs generally aren't allowed on Sarasota County beaches, but Brohard Paw Park, located in Venice just outside of Sarasota, welcomes them and has lots of accommodations to make your visit as well as your pet's convenient and comfortable. Let your dog play in the sand or in a fenced play yard while you relax on a bench. And amenities such as dog showers, fire hydrants, leash posts, dog waste bags and drinking fountains for you and your pup will help make your visit easier.
- Get out on the water.
Chartered boat rides are a popular way to explore Sarasota's many gorgeous waterways, including Siesta Key, Lido Key, and Midnight Pass. Many are also dog-friendly if your pooch is well-behaved, so you can take them out with you and let them cool off and see the sights as the wind ruffles their fur. Many different types of cruises are available, including ones during the day or at sunset and others that take you on a quest to spot dolphins. Dog-friendly charter companies include Old Salty Dog Boat Charters, Sarasota Boat Tours, and Beach Bum Charters.
- Visit a dog park.
Take your pooch to a dog park to let them play, explore, and socialize with other dogs, and as an added bonus, you can strike up conversations with other owners. Sarasota dog parks include Arlington Paw Park, which has wide open spaces as well as jogging trails if you'd like to take your pet for a run. Lakeview Paw Park is also a popular choice and has separate play areas for large and small dogs while providing plenty of shade with large, mature trees. And 17th Street Dog Park, located next to other parks, has agility equipment in the area designated for large dogs. Closer to Bradenton, you'll also be able to visit the Laurie Crawford Dog Park, which is a local favorite!
- Treat your dog to a spa day.
Spa days aren't just for humans - dogs can now get their turn at being pampered. Take your pet to a Sarasota groomer and spa to have their fur attractively clipped so they'll not only look better but also feel cooler in hot weather. And you can even get Fido some treatments that sound like bliss, including the Dead Sea Mud Bath at Pawsh Boutique & Spa or a blueberry facial at Bayside Pet Resort. And both spas also offer a treatment with the Furminator deshedding tool so your pet sheds less and has less excess fur.
